Terrible experience with a maxillofacial surgery with Dr Patel and Dr Afwerke. Left with significant constant pain. Jaw relapsed with a nonunion which they refused to acknowledged and improperly maintained medical records and seemingly intentional hiding of documents that would show their poor medical care. They made my bite worse, my pain worse and my jaw worse off than when I came to them. Also it seems Dr Patel is completely uninvolved with his patients and residents do it all. Despite being told he would perform the surgery the resident did it. I have had 7 other surgeries at teaching hospitals and I have never had less interaction with the attending than here with Dr Patel. They will dissmis concerns the entire way through. And if your surgery is anything like mine they will leave you worse off than when you started.

Dr Patel and the others that work there are kind and professional. My primary issue is that it is virtually impossible to make an appointment over the phone. I have called numerous times through the day and the phones have been dead saying they are closed at 3 in the afternoon. The staff that works the phones are horrible and seem to not care about the people that need genuine help like myself. I truly wish medical stuff wasn’t so difficult. I’d like my mouth to be fixed please.

i got a referal from my dentist so i could go see Dr Patel for jaw pain I’ve had for about 6 months. he got the referral and had his nurse call me and tell me my best bet is to see a head and neck specialist. I am tired of doctors pushing me off to other specialist without even getting the details of my medical situation first! if a Dr or nurse cant even ask for details first,how do they know who is best to see?

I would just like to say that Dr. Patel is not only a great Doctor, but a great man. I was in a car accident about 5 blocks away from North Memorial about 2 years ago. I broke many things that day and am now paralyzed. I also broke my jaw, in which they found an infection in my jaw bone. When he came up to see me, his first words were... I’m sure by now, you probably have noticed you have no teeth. I found humor in that and needed the smile. He told me to worry about walking again, and he would worry about getting me teeth again. I have been to his office numerous times and always have had many laughs going there. Which for me is very tough anymore to find humor in anythin . Thank you Doc and to your nurses and others there to have helped me get this far in my recovery.

Dr.Patel Was amazing to work with. But every time I Call to make an appointment or have questions about the surgery I had the people who answer the phone are super rude! I called to make an appointment because My ears are filling up with fluids and effecting my hearing and who ever answered the phone said "That sucks, but dr. patel wont be in till next week" And so I said can I see someone else and she said " THere is nothing I can do for you" And hung up. And this happenes every time I call. SO sick of it.
