My last visit to Colchester Dental will likely be my last. I first started going to Colchester dental in 2011 because of their reputation for being gentle and calming for people with a fear of dentists (like me). Dr. Palm, Mary, and Donna were all amazing at keeping me calm. Additionally, Dr. Palm went the extra mile to ensure my experience was as painless as possible (without using sedatives). He and his team greatly diminished my fear of dentists. Dr. Palm recently retired, but I wanted to give the new dentists a chance. Today, I had an awful and painful experience that quickly restored my fears. The numbing topical was applied for less than a minute before the dentist injected the Novocain. I understand that the where the Novocain needed to be injected was a more sensitive area of my mouth, but this was the most painful injection I ever experienced. When I began to struggle and express pain, the dentist just said “it’s ok”, but did not stop. I felt trapped and could do nothing about it. I expressed anger after, I mean I was furious, and I colorfully expressed how painful it was. Instead of being empathetic, the dentist proceeded to school me on how Novocain works. When I explained to the dentist that I come to Colchester for a less painful experience, she stated that she didn’t know they were advertised or marketed like that and basically passed the blame for my painful experience on a misunderstanding about how Colchester Dental was marketed. Thank you to Mary for doing what she could to make the situation better.

I have been going to Colchester Dental for a few years and have always loved it. Today I brought my 2.5 year old daughter there for her first visit and she had such a great time that she asked if we could go back tomorrow. The dental hygienist, Ivy, carefully explained everything she was doing so my daughter felt comfortable, and even let my daughter play with the different tools. My daughter left with cleaner teeth and had a ton of fun!

I enjoyed my visit today to the Colchester Dental Group. All the staff were very friendly and helpful when I had questions. As I am a new patient, I was impressed that I received a tour of the office and was interviewed by the dentist to review my records and ask more clarifying questions. They also spent time examining my mouth to determine what needed to be done to improve my teeth. I look forward to returning to this practice for a follow up appointment.

a little over a year ago, I had a horrible painful dental infection (likely an abscess but also including nerve damage) & was able to get an emergency appointment, even though I wasn’t a patient. I spent what felt like 40 minutes filing out paperwork (which is already stressful for me due to a disability) then I paid them $100 just to be seen & the dentist poked around in my mouth (supposedly as minimally as possible) looked around, spouted off a bunch of dental lingo I didn’t understand & basically told me that he couldn’t help me & I had just wasted my time, my energy & my money. I had called everywhere & no one was able to see me, they were the only ones. I told him I was in tremendous amounts of pain & yet he never suggested I take antibiotics, never offered me any, never even wrote me a referral for someone else who might be able to help. Eventually I called the office requesting a copy of the paperwork I filled out so it would help me fill out the next set of paperwork at the next dentist & the office sent it to me. Unfortunately, between the debilitating pain I was in & the fact that I had already called everyone else, I never found another dentist, that was more than a year ago. The infection eventually cleared up, but it comes back every few months & Advil is my only saving grace. What I experienced here felt unethical. I knew a lot of work had to be done, but isn’t that why they were there, to do the work that needed to be done? The "front man" or head honcho dentist, apparently drives from Montreal everyday to work there, it seems they only deal in elective surgery & procedures for vanity’s sake, but those in actual crisis must just move along, of course had I known that, I never would have wasted my time, my limited energy or my money. I’m sure you’ll have a better experience if all you need is an optional elective procedure.
