Lack of empathy/ lack of office professionalism: I started experiencing dental anxiety after I received a crown at this office around 2019. Cleanings were fine but restorative procedures started to cause me to be anxious. After the second time, I was given nitrous gas. Additionally, I would like to say that Dr Brown seemed agitated with me in which I understood as the anxiety forced me to cancel appointment(s) before the procedure was started causing wasted chair time Most recently I had an appointment for another crown and once again I wasn’t able to keep my anxiety under control even after being given nitrous gas. I also had a filling placed in last year and in the middle of the procedure; either Dr Brown or her assistant said “oops or uh oh” and never educated me on what happened. I was just told “if you experience any pain after this you may have to get a root canal” . I honestly believe she drilled too deep and her ego wouldn’t let her be honest. Dr Brown seemed impatient, annoyed, and impatient. She then stated that she thinks I need to be fully sedated but never recommended a different office nor did she provide a written referral. Her front office manager and staff claimed they were able to “Google” an office in Riverdale and couldn’t provide any details other than “the reviews seem okay”. I understand my dental anxiety may have been inconvenient for Dr Brown. However, I feel like she as well as her staff were more concerned with loss of time and money rather than the care of a patient. There were also other instances in which I felt uncomfortable as a patient. For example, I had an afternoon appointment that was close to closing hours and at check out Dr Brown proceeded to come to the front of the office in a celebratory fashion because it was the end of the day. She never said once “thank you”, we appreciate you as a patient, or not even a “have a good evening”. Also when I would get my routine cleanings, she seemed a little short and had an attitude of “let’s just get this exam over with”. So at this point I am somewhat thankful all of this occurred because I can happily take myself and money elsewhere. I believe the sentiments are mutual as advising or suggesting full sedation for a crown is something that most dental offices won’t do bc it’s not a surgical procedure. I was also charged $300 for chair time and “materials” in which I think was ludicrous; $100-150 maybe but not $300. It’s been difficult finding an office that will book an appointment in which a request for Valium in conjunction with nitrous gas is given. I’m most certain that her decision was based on the fact that she probably wanted to end the patient -office relationship. I have over 10 years of customer service experience and it’s sad that in 2024 the front office staff has better skills than the actual dentist as it relates to building customer rapport. Great office for routine cleanings but for any other procedures I would suggest that you do your research before locking in an appointment.

Dr Rena and her son always provide outsta ding service. The dental hygienests are all knowledgeable and kind. Very patient and informative staff. Also, Ms. Dianne at the front desk is a Godsend!! I absolutely love this establishment.

Very pleasant atmosphere with professional staff. This was my first visit and Sarah was awesome and made me feel very relaxed and comfortable. Dr. Brown was thorough and spoke with me candidly about my situation. I recommend this practice for anyone looking for expert care and superb customer care.

Always does a good job until I get a bill, but that’s any medical facility. Lol. Nonetheless, great atmosphere, very friendly, knowledgeable at what they do, and they listen to the patient. I highly recommend them. I like them.

I had the best experience at Smiles by Design. The hygienist Mackenzie did a wonderful job, it’s obvious she is a perfectionist and loves what she does! I also had a cavity and Dr. Brown filled it without me feeling a thing, him and his assistant were very comforting. If you’re someone who experiences a lot of anxiety when going to the dentist this is the place for you. They will make you feel comfortable your entire experience.
