Barbaric and inhumane!! That’s how I was treated at Columbia Dental in Rocky Hill. I was seen by Dr Bhavika Thakkar. I had an infected molar tooth. And after years of problems with it, I wanted it extracted. Even though they said it was my choice. I was told it would be better to keep the tooth. I preferred to get an extraction. This decision was not well received. I was administered several shots of Novocain. But could still feel an incredible amount of pain in the gum line. The doctor told me that I was just feeling pressure not pain. Really??? She continued with the procedure. My husband said, “my wife is in pain.” She replied, “are you in her mouth that you can feel the pain?” She administered more Novocain, which didn’t affect the pain at all. I told her I was still in pain. I screamed in pain while she continued the extraction. Later my husband asked, “are you sure you numbed the right tooth?” Then she threatened to throw him out of the room. After about 30 minutes in excruciating pain the extraction was complete. Within the last 10 years, I have had 4 wisdom tooth extractions and I normally have a very high tolerance for pain but this was beyond painful. I was sent home with no written instructions and just ibuprofen for pain. My pain continued for over 2 more hours. Until my husband found the OxyContin he had, years ago, for his shoulder surgery. I am a retired registered nurse and I would never ignore a patient’s pain. If I have to extract another tooth I would never call Dr Bhavika Thakkar at Columbia Dental or recommend her to anyone!!!

I had a Stroke at the end of 2022 and was basically out of commission for all of 2023 and most of 2024. Meanwhile, I had a tooth that had a temporary filling fall out some time in the beginning of 2024. I struggled with an abscess and constantly dealing with food getting stuck in my tooth. I finally contacted Cigna to get a list of Oral Surgeons near me. I ended up going to Columbia Dental as a very nervous patient. I was easily put at ease with the staffs calming and reassuring ways. I had never had a female Dentist pull my teeth so that added to my tension. After meeting Dr. Tucker and seeing how down to earth and reassuring she was, I agreed to have her pull my tooth. She explained every step as she worked with charm and extreme professionalism. She communicated with me to assure that I was not in pain. Wala ok, we’re done, she said. I was tremendously in awe of their competent and professional service. Dr. Tucker is truly a master of her art in dentistry. I would 100 percent recommend her.

Parents, please GO SOMEWHERE ELSE. If I could give zero stars, I would. I took my 14 month old son to see Dr. Kemp (Karen Kemp-Prosterman). When waiting to be seen, there were a handful of young children waiting for fillings and additional appointments I overheard being made over the phone for more children to get fillings. During the first visit, I was told my son had 1 “pre cavity” and that we’d have to come back in a month to clean some “plaque” off his teeth. A month later, I was told by Dr. Kemp that my son actually has 4 pre-cavities and during his next visit he would need all 4 front teeth drilled and filled if they didn’t get any better. I was told to prepare for cavity fillings. During this visit Dr. Kemp attempted to remove the staining on my sons teeth by using an adult sized spinning polish brush and didn’t get anything off of his teeth. I was extremely upset with this news that my son is so young and has 4 potential cavities, so I seeked opinions elsewhere to make sure the diagnosis of 4 cavities was consistent. At the other pediatric dentist, I was told that he DOES NOT in fact have ANY cavities and the “plaque” on his front 4 teeth wasn’t actually plaque, it was external staining that is not a major concern. I was also told that if he hypothetically did have cavities, the dentist would NEVER fill them on such a young child. Additionally, this dentist used a CHILD SIZED polish brush that immediately removed the staining. My husband and I are disgusted that a doctor would take advantage of such a young child. This doctor should lose her license.

I had recent root canal there. I heard stories about root canals and wasn’t really sure what to expect. I had plenty of prior other surgeries so I wasn’t worried. I originally went in to schedule an appointment and dealt with Deanna. As other reviews stated, she was great to deal with. She was very specific with what I needed to do. I needed premeds so Dr. Stanko called them in. Everyone involved in the process was very professional and worked well together. The procedure was not bad at all and it went a little quicker than everyone expected. I was told there may be a little pain afterwards and there was, but it was bearable and didn’t bother me at all. I would recommend going here for dental procedures. They do a great job.

I went a week ago to have my teeth cleaned and full mouth x-rays . Deanna was very pleasant as well as Kayla. Trish did an excellent cleaning and was informative and had a calming demeanor. Dr. Stanko came in and went over my x-rays and my options on a couple teeth. Very thorough and informative on my options and was pleasant. I have had dental work done here many times in the past and I have had no issues as I have elsewhere. I find the office nice and clean.
